In March 2026, 20 Middlesex Community College students participated in the two-day SUCCESS Camp. Run by MCC’s SUCCESS Scholars Program, the camp was designed to help students gain skills to support their academic paths.
“My experience in the SUCCESS Camp was truly amazing and made me even more excited to take future courses at MCC,” said Tanishka Duche, an MCC business administration transfer student, of Westford. “I appreciated the opportunity to explore the many resources available and become more comfortable in the [college] environment. Everyone in the program was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and I would recommend it to any new student looking to get involved and feel connected.”
Through hands-on workshops and presentations, the camp introduced students to MCC support services such as the Academic Centers for Enrichment (ACE) for tutoring and the Wellness Resource Center (WRC). The camp also showed them how to manage their classwork in the DegreeWorks software.
“The SUCCESS Camp gave me the platform to not only learn more about the resources on campus, but also create meaningful connections,” said Claude Msowoya, an MCC paralegal studies student, of Lowell. “I really hope there are more of these, especially to help new students get the feel of the campus.”
Offering opportunities to build students' skills in leadership, time management, decision-making, and wellness, the camp helped students gain confidence, develop a sense of belonging, and make valuable connections with peers and staff. The SUCCESS Scholars staff also shared about their own college experiences and knowledge to relate to the students.
“The SUCCESS Camp was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and my education,” said Laura Johnson, an MCC business entrepreneurship major, of Chelmsford. “I learned a lot about MCC and, most importantly, myself. I think that everyone should have to take this as an intro to school – it gives you so much knowledge about where to go for everything.”
MCC’s SUCCESS Scholars Program supports Asian American, Black, African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ students with academic coaching and mentorship, financial wellness services, and career development guidance. While the SUCCESS Camp was tailored to SUCCESS-eligible students, all MCC students were encouraged to register.
“I’m especially glad to call this a true ‘SUCCESS’ camp,” said Farrorza Lim, MCC’s Senior SUCCESS Scholars Coach. “By the end of the two days, it was filled with new friendships, shared knowledge, and a renewed sense of confidence and readiness for the journey ahead.”
