Over the summer, Middlesex Community College hosts the College for Kids programs for kids ages 8 to 17.  Students enjoy unique opportunities to explore careers, learn new skills, meet new friends, and boost self-confidence. Classes start Monday, July 8.

“I like that Middlesex has lots of different types of camps for everyone to enjoy,” said Alice Steele, an MCC College for Kids student. “The staff were really kind and patient, and they taught us so many things.”

“My daughter was excited to go to camp every single day last year,” said Jessica McElaney, Steele’s mother. “She had so much fun, she made me set an alarm so we could sign up for this year's camps right away.”

MCC’s College for Kids programs are taught by public school teachers and expert professionals. Topics include STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), arts and crafts, baking, aviation, photography, fashion design, online gaming and game design, filmmaking, and fitness.

Favorites such as Dungeons & Dragons, Jewelry: Design/Build and Science Discovery Lab are returning this summer. New options include Art Time, Artistic Roadmap to Your Goals, Cartooning/Caricature Drawing, On the Spot Improv, Cookie Decorating, Dance Fitness, Fit Kids, Game Design, Science Discovery Lab, Science Experimentation Station, Intro to Coding.

Programs are offered in Bedford and Lowell, featuring five weeks of full- and half-day programs from July 7 to August 7, Monday through Thursday. Full-day programs run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and half-day programs run 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students who take two half-day programs to make a full day can stay on campus for lunch in between the two sessions.

“Held on our college campuses, College for Kids offers exciting opportunities over the summer,” said Ellen Wright, MCC’s Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development. “Learning subjects not traditionally taught in school, kids engage in hands-on and interactive activities to gain knowledge and skills that develop their professional interests and enrich their lives. This summer, we’re offering a variety of new options and returning favorites that will keep kids busy and having fun.”
