College for Kids/Teens youth programs are not eligible for Commonwealth of Massachusetts employee tuition waivers. At this time, there are no waivers, vouchers, or financial assistance available.

Calling all Tortured Poets - Are You Ready for It? Dive into the Life of a Showgirl this Summer. (Ages 12-16)
Taylor Swift is the biggest star in the world right now, and for a very good reason: her lyrics and her music. Whether you're a diehard Swiftie who knows her albums All Too Well [10 Minute Version], a casual music fan, or someone who's just interested in writing in general, join us for a creative writing-based deep dive of Miss Americana's greatest hits and deepest cuts, analyzing the poetry behind just how she's written some Eras-defining classics... and how you can start using some of those same techniques in your own writing! A notebook with plenty of Blank Space will be provided and we will listen to songs, watch her movies and music videos, and maybe even make some friendship bracelets along the way. This is a week you'll remember for evermore! This course will incorporate videos and documentaries as instructional resources to demonstrate how Taylor Swift has transformed as a writer, artist and individual. Please be aware that some resource materials (videos/documentaries) may include a few instances of adult language or suggestive themes.

Young artists will develop their drawing skills as they explore basics and learn the fundamental skills of cartoon drawing using simple but effective techniques. Using concepts like exaggeration, abstraction and perspective, students will take a rough sketch of facial expressions and figure drawing to a fully developed caricature.

FASHION DESIGN (Ages 10-16)
Are you interested in the texture, style and design of clothing? We will inspire you
to explore fashion tools and techniques and help you visualize and express your own
style. Students will be introduced to French draping and each student will receive
either a new or donated gown to transform. Collaborate as a team to create marketing
materials and on the final day, invite your family and friends to the annual College
for Kids Fashion show where you can debut your creation. You will go home with a dress
and a portfolio that you have worked on during class.

This is your time to Shine! Students will collaborate to produce a short film, interview
or news segment. Using iPhone or phone cameras, youth will conceptualize, produce,

Join us for sparkly creative fun! Calling all up-and-coming Jewelers! Learn by doing,
from your initial idea to your finished piece. Create stylish jewelry and accessories
such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces and hair scrunchies. Over the week conceptualize
your ideas, then, design and build your collection. The program will conclude with
a pop-up display showcase for parents, family and friends to see.

Step back in time and bring history to life! In this exciting program, campers will work together to create and perform a play about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War—right here on Bedford Campus, just minutes from where the first battles erupted in Lexington and Concord. Participants ages 10–17 will help write character lines, design simple costumes and props, learn and rehearse their scenes, and perform for families on Thursday afternoon. Throughout the week, campers will have fun acting, creating, and collaborating while discovering the stories that shaped our nation. No theater experience needed—just enthusiasm and a love of imagination!

Tap into your creative side! Learn cake and cupcake decorating tips in this exciting class! Each day you will go home with a fully custom decorated cake or fun cupcake designs. New techniques and ideas for all types of special occasions or just everyday fun! Due to the nature of this program, we are not able to accommodate students with food allergies. An $80 supply fee per student is payable directly to the instructor on the first day of the program, which covers all the materials needed for the program.

Join us as we move through a variety of fun games and activities! This course is intended for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career within Public Service at the local, state or federal level. A variety of different public service careers will be explored within the following fields: law enforcement agencies, court system, corrections, emergency response services and victim services. Students will explore their work interests, personality, skills, values and life goals in order to identify possible public service careers that match with their strengths. Career mapping and organization research will be used to formulate a real-world perspective on current jobs and the requirements needed to achieve them. The class includes walking field trips and tours of the Lowell Police Department and Lowell Justice Center. Upon successful completion, you can earn one credit for IDS 133 – Public Service Career Exploration at MCC. This articulated credit is not always transferable to other institutions, but can always be applied to MCC degrees and certificates. (15 hours) $199

Game design is the process of creating and shaping the mechanics and rules of a game. Games can be created for entertainment, education, exercise, or experimental purposes. Additionally, elements and principles of game design can be applied to other interactions, in the form of gamification. We will focus on design through Gameplay, Mechanics and Systems, and Player Experience. Through using and creating cards, board games, and dice, we will explore all aspects of games and design. We will work on building skills such as planning out a timeline, playtesting, design, and implementation. If you enjoy playing games and want to know how to build your own games, this is the class for you! No coding is involved—just creativity, strategy, and fun! Game Design is for ages 12 to 17.

INTRO TO CODING (Ages 12-17) - HALF DAY PROGRAM
Kids may have heard of Java programming language, which is different from JavaScript.
It may also be known that with programming you can create applications for both the
computer and mobile devices (particularly familiar may be mobile apps). If you have
seen Block programming languages (like Scratch) you may have used drag-and-drop programming
before. If you want to explore programming in a text-based way and expand upon your
previous knowledge, or just want to start to learn a programming language, definitely
sign up! Kids will explore computer science concepts through a high-level programming
language: Processing. How do lines of code transform into an interactive, user-controlled
experience? What are some of the fundamentals of Computer Science? What can you do
with computer science? Find answers to these questions and more in this course. Please
note: Coding classes are for ages 12-17 and students will have to know some Geometry
and Algebra to take this Intro class.

INTERMEDIATE CODING (Ages 12-17) - HALF DAY PROGRAM
Java is a programming language that is Object-Oriented. (Object Oriented Programming:
OOP). If you are already asking questions about computer science and have some experience
with computers already, this course may be for you! Learn more about Classes and Objects
and object-oriented programming. This course works well after learning about introduction
to coding or having a class in school! We ask harder questions about the inner workings
of computer science. Knowledge of geometry, algebra, and calculus will help us explore
more with graphics and designing Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) with code. The end
goal is a working game created using Java that you can play or others can play.

Young scientists will learn about hypothesis and theory and perform age-appropriate
experiments that will make scientific concepts clear and logical. We will perform
many experiments during class, including photosynthesis and respiration, a lava lamp,
microscopic observation of animal and plant cells, cell division, mitosis & meiosis,
isolating DNA from a banana and making water travel through capillary action.

College for Kids Summer FAQs
Summer 2025 College for Kids registration opens on February 20, 2025.
The 2025 Summer program runs from July 7 – August 7 and is held on the MCC's beautiful Bedford campus.
There are multiple dates to choose from and registration is required.
We have half- and full-day programs that vary in times:

Half-day programs run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Full-day programs run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m - 4 p.m.
All students need to be signed in and signed out during drop-off and pick-up by a parent and/or guardian.
Please review the 2026 Parent Information with your child prior to first day of the program. Youth will be notified of the safety rules and expectations of being on a college campus on the first day of the program during the Morning Meeting. Youth will be reminded to make safe choices and will be responsible for the decisions they make. Please do not send your sick child to the program. Discipline problems will be handled in the following manner:
- Individual behavior problems will be handled by all program instructors and co-instructors.
- If problem persists, the child will be referred to the College for Kids Assistant Director or Dean and parents will be notified.
- If problem continues to exist, the child will be dismissed from the program and not permitted to return. Refunds will not be granted if the child is dismissed from the program. Dismissal from the program may occur at the discretion of the Middlesex Community College Staff.
