Our College for Kids summer half- and full-day programs provide your children with an exciting range of unique opportunities.

College for Kids/Teens youth programs are not eligible for Commonwealth of Massachusetts employee tuition waivers. At this time, there are no waivers, vouchers, or financial assistance available.

New! Art Time (Ages 10-15)
A variety of art and craft materials will be available to let your inner artist shine!
Create one-of-a-kind crafts with your personal touch. From pompom rugs to wish bracelets
and many projects in between, this program offers a relaxed setting to create original
items. Material fee of $30 per student payable to instructor at class.

This class ties together art and the goals teens want to reach. Using their creativity, students will make a road map with the steps needed to attain these goals. Teens will create projects using a wide range of materials complimenting their road maps.

New! Cartooning/Caricature Drawing (Ages 8-11)
Young artists will develop their drawing skills as they explore basics and learn the
fundamental skills of cartoon drawing using simple but effective techniques. Using
concepts like exaggeration, abstraction and perspective, students will take a rough
sketch of facial expressions and figure drawing to a fully developed caricature.

FASHION DESIGN (Ages 10-17)
Are you interested in the texture, style and design of clothing? We will inspire you
to explore fashion tools and techniques and help you visualize and express your own
style.
Each student will receive a gown either new or gently worn gown to transform. Collaborate
as a team to create marketing materials and on the final day, invite your family and
friends to the annual College for Kids Fashion show where you will display your creations.
You will go home with a dress portfolio that you have worked on over the week.

FILM PRODUCTION & EDITING (Ages 10-15)
This is your time to Shine! Students will collaborate to produce a short film, interview
or news segment. Using iPhone or phone cameras, children will conceptualize, produce,
be the talent, and learn to edit content.

JEWELRY - DESIGN/BUILD: Ages (10-15)
Join us for sparkly creative fun! Calling all up and coming Jewelers! Learn by doing,
from your initial idea to your finished piece. Create stylish jewelry such as earrings,
bracelets, necklaces and headbands. Over the week, conceptualize your ideas, then
design, build and finally market your jewelry. The program will conclude with a pop-up
showcase for parents, family and friends to attend.

casual music fan, or someone who's just interested in writing in general, join us
for a creative writing-based deep dive of Miss Americana's greatest hits and deepest
cuts, analyzing the poetry behind just how she's written some Eras-defining classics...
and how you can start using some of those same techniques in your own writing! Bring a notebook
with plenty of Blank Space, as we listen to songs, watch her movies and music videos,

CAKES & CUPCAKES (AGES 10-15) – HALF DAY PROGRAM
Tap into your creative side! Learn cake and cupcake decorating tips in this exciting
class! Each day you will go home with a fully custom decorated cake or fun cupcake
designs. New techniques and ideas for all types of special occasions or just everyday
fun! Due to the nature of this program, we are not able to accommodate students with
food allergies. An $80 supply fee per student is payable directly to the instructor
on the first day of the program, which covers all the materials needed for the program.

Each class students will learn different cookie decorating technique with different
types of cookies and frostings. (Level of difficulty will vary by age group).
Students will take home their edible masterpieces each day and also a recipe card to keep. A materials fee will be payable to instructor on the first day.

New to dance or looking to stay in shape through the off season? This class has something
for you! Learn how to activate key muscles for building technique, balance, and strength.
Have fun learning upbeat dance progressions and combinations all while boosting your
skills and confidence. Students will explore different styles including lyrical, jazz,
and body percussion while getting more comfortable moving their body to the music.
We will finish off the week with a showcase performance to demonstrate our progress.

In this engaging Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) class, students will explore the exciting
world of architectural design using AutoCAD, a cutting-edge software. Learn how to
create detailed floor plans, elevations, and a 3D model that will bring unique building
ideas to life. Through hands-on learning, students will develop their creativity and
technical skills while understanding the basics of drafting and design principles.
By the end of the course, students will have a drawing set and a 3D model showcasing

Game design is the process of creating and shaping the mechanics and rules of a game.
Games can be created for entertainment, education, exercise, or experimental purposes.
Additionally, elements and principles of game design can be applied to other interactions,
in the form of gamification. We will focus on design through Gameplay, Mechanics and
Systems, and Player Experience. Through using and creating cards, board games, and
dice, we will explore all aspects of games and design. We will work on building skills
such as planning out a timeline, playtesting, design, and implementation. If you enjoy
playing games and want to know how to build your own games, this is the class for
you! Game Design is for ages 12 & up with an intermediate level of coding skills.

Java is a programming language that is Object-Oriented. (Object Oriented Programming:

with computers already, this course may be for you! Learn more about Classes and Objects
and object-oriented programming. This course works well after learning about introduction
to coding or having a class in school! We ask harder questions about the inner workings
of computer science. If you're good with geometry, algebra, and calculus we can even
explore more with graphics and designing Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) with code.
The end goal is a working game created using Java that you can play or others can

banana and making water travel through capillary action.

Public Service Career Exploration (High School Students)
Are you interested in learning about careers within Public Service at the local, state
or federal level? Explore your work interests, personality, skills, values and life
goals to identify possible public service careers that match with your strengths.
We will use career mapping and organization research to formulate a real-world perspective on current jobs and the requirements needed to achieve them. A variety of different public service careers will be explored within the following fields: Law enforcement agencies, Court system, Corrections, Emergency response services and Victim services. The class includes walking field trips and tours of the Lowell Police Department and Lowell Justice Center. Upon successful completion, you can earn one credit for IDS 133 – Public Service Career Exploration at MCC. This articulated credit is not always transferable to other institutions, but can ALWAYS be applied to MCC degrees and certificates. (15 hours) $175

INTRO TO CODING (Ages 12-17) - HALF DAY PROGRAM
Kids may have heard of Java programming language, which is different from JavaScript.
It may also be known that with programming you can create applications for both the
computer and mobile devices (particularly familiar may be mobile apps). If you have
seen Block programming languages (like Scratch) you may have used drag-and-drop programming
before. If you want to explore programming in a text-based way and expand upon your
previous knowledge, or just want to start to learn a programming language, definitely
sign up! Kids will explore computer science concepts through a high-level programming
language: Processing. How do lines of code transform into an interactive, user-controlled
experience? What are some of the fundamentals of Computer Science? What can you do
with computer science? Find answers to these questions and more in this course. Please
note: Coding classes are for ages 12-17 and students will have to know some Geometry
and Algebra to take this Intro class.

Engineering/Computer Aided Design (CAD) careers offer tremendous versatility and opportunities You will explore skills, values and life goals while being introduced to tools to formulate a real-world perspective on current jobs in Engineering and CAD and the requirements needed to achieve them! These include: Hands-on printed circuit board layout, 3D printers, other engineering tools through software programs and lecture, career mapping, SOLIDWORKS and Printed circuit board layout. College for Kids Summer FAQs
Summer 2025 College for Kids registration opens on February 20, 2025.
The 2025 Summer program runs from July 7 – August 7 and is held on the MCC's beautiful Bedford campus.
There are multiple dates to choose from and registration is required.
We have half- and full-day programs that vary in times:

Half-day programs run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Full-day programs run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m - 4 p.m.
All students need to be signed in and signed out during drop-off and pick-up by a parent and/or guardian.
Please review the 2025 Parent Information with your child prior to first day of the program. Youth will be notified of the safety rules and expectations of being on a college campus on the first day of the program during the Morning Meeting. Youth will be reminded to make safe choices and will be responsible for the decisions they make. Please do not send your sick child to the program. Discipline problems will be handled in the following manner:
- Individual behavior problems will be handled by all program instructors and co-instructors.
- If problem persists, the child will be referred to the College for Kids Assistant Director or Dean and parents will be notified.
- If problem continues to exist, the child will be dismissed from the program and not permitted to return. Refunds will not be granted if the child is dismissed from the program. Dismissal from the program may occur at the discretion of the Middlesex Community College Staff.
