This documentary focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their "house" culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.

This film is rated R by the Movie Picture Association.

Located in MCC’s Academic Arts Center, The Owl Theatre is excited to showcase films and bring community entertainment to Greater Lowell!.The original Owl Theatre was built in 1913 in the Boston and Maine depot – home to our Academic Arts Center – before becoming the Rialto in 1920.

This new version is an opportunity to:
  • Revisit MCC and Lowell's roots
  • Maintain a community tradition
  • Tie in MCC's owl mascot Swoops

Conversations are already underway between MCC and other community partners looking to showcase films in the space in the coming months. Stay tuned for more announcements coming soon!
