Middlesex Community College will close out the Fall 2025 “A World of Music” concert series with a second performance by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra (LCO). The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13 at MCC’s Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center, Recital Hall in Lowell.
“We are delighted to be closing the Fall season of ‘A World of Music’ concert season with a performance by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra,” said Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, MCC’s Chair of Music. “This concert will feature a world premiere of Fantasia Folia by Nancy Skolos, who will be attending the concert. Works by Arcangelo Corelli, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Paul Hindemith will also be on the program. It should be an exciting concert!
"I’m thrilled to have such a talented orchestra premiere ‘Fantasia Folia,’” Skolos said. “Their artistry will bring the music to life, revealing textures and emotions that reach beyond what I imagined while composing it."
Conducted by MCC Music faculty member Orlando Cela, the LCO is MCC’s orchestra in residence. In the upcoming concert, the string section will be highlighted. In addition to Skolos, Concerto grosso in G minor (Christmas Concerto) by Corelli; Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by Bach; Trauermusik for Viola and Strings by Hindemith will be performed. Jessica Cooper will be the viola soloist in the Hindemith.
“I love playing with LCO where I am surrounded by a group of truly talented and supportive colleagues and am honored to be featured as a soloist on our upcoming concert,” Cooper said. “I am excited to be playing music by the king of viola composition himself, Paul Hindemith. While Hindemith composed and premiered Trauermusik in a single day upon learning King George V had died, I have gratefully had more than a day with the piece and I am looking forward to sharing its deeply touching sound with the audience.”
MCC will host a Student Recital at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 8, featuring student singers and instrumentalists, along with works by music technology students.
