Middlesex Community College is excited to announce that eight new members have joined the college’s Board of Trustees ahead of the 2025-2026 academic year.
A board member from 2014 to 2019, Stephanie J. Cronin, of Dunstable, will return to the board as chair. New members also include Sidney L. Liang, of Lowell; Maria A. Vejar-Mason, of Dracut; Yun-Ju Choi, of Lowell; Daniel R. Markow, of North Reading; Vladimir L. Saldaña, of Lowell, as the appointed alumni; Joshua J. Moreaux, Jr., of Lowell, as the elected alumni; and Abbygail Rivera, of Lowell, as the student trustee.
“We are thrilled to welcome these tremendous individuals to the college community,” said Phil Sisson, MCC’s President. “Stephanie, Sidney, Maria, Yun-Ju, Daniel, Vladimir, Joshua and Abbygail have proven themselves as dedicated community members who understand MCC’s mission of providing an accessible education to our population of students. They are joining an incredible team of veteran trustees in Cheryl, Kathy and Michael, while building upon a strong and storied legacy provided to us by our retiring members, including Jim, Annie, Brian, Jim, Bopha, Steven and Diamond. We are appreciative of all our trustees for their service, as well as for the critical work they have done and will continue to do in ensuring Middlesex remains a strong local and national leader in community college education.”
Executive Director at Middlesex 3, Cronin is a leader of business and economic development in Middlesex County. She serves in leadership roles for several community organizations, including as a member of the Board of Directors for the Middlesex Community College Foundation and the Greater Lowell Community Foundation.
Liang previously worked as the Senior Director of Metta Health Center in Lowell, providing leadership and guidance for strengthening community partnerships and relationships with refugee and immigrant communities. Housemaster and Dean of Students for Lowell High School from 2003 to 2023, Vejar-Mason is an experienced and effective educator and administrator who is now a business entrepreneur and owner in the Lowell area.
At the Coalition for a Better Acre, Choi was the Chief Executive Officer, bringing over 30 years of experience in progressive management. Now President and Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Corporation, Markow offers expertise in business management and strategic leadership. A community development professional, Saldaña is a Commercial Real Estate Agent and Property Manager for The Edge Group, Inc. and Bell Tower Management.
Elected the alumni trustee in Spring 2025, Moreaux is the current Manager of Learning Implementation and Delivery at Takeda who now assists students in the college’s Learn and Earn Experience. Current MCC early childhood education student Rivera is passionate about ensuring high-quality education for all students and hopes to advocate for resources and support in her role as Student Trustee.
Three previous trustees will remain on the board, which include Cheryl E. Howard, of Reading; Kathleen A. Plath, of Lowell; and Michael A. Ferrari, of Sudbury. Howard was Vice President of Marketing and Admission at Simmons University and received several awards for her professional work, as well as her service to the community. She has been a member of the board since 2016.
Serving on the board since 2017, Plath joined Community Teamwork in 2018 as the Director of Development and Marketing. She has more than 20 years of Executive Leadership in Sales and Marketing for both large and small companies in the healthcare, technology, and non-profit worlds. At Northeastern University, Ferrari is the Assistant Vice President for External Affairs and State Relations and Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs, Government Relations Manager. A trustee since 2022, he provides strategic council to the university president and vice president for external affairs on all aspects of state and federal government relations in his role.
The college is grateful to the retired members of the board for their time of service. The past trustees are former chair James J. Campbell, of Lowell; vice chair Annie O’Connor, of Lowell; Brian L. Chapman, of Lowell, James H. Campanini, of Lowell; Bopha T. Malone, of Bedford; elected alumni Steven C. Iem, of Lowell; and student trustee Diamond Tin, of Lowell.
