Dual Enrollment and High School Visiting Student

MCC offers high school students options to complete college classes on campus or online and earn transferable credit

Dual Enrollment is a great opportunity for high school students to get a head start on earning college credit! Here’s some guidance to help determine which option is the best for you!

Dual Enrollment vs. High School Visiting Students:

  • Dual Enrollment students take MCC courses that will also be used to fulfill high school graduation requirements. Dual Enrollment students qualify for a reduced tuition rate.
  • High School Visiting students take MCC courses that will not be used to fulfill high school graduation requirements. Visiting High School students qualify for our general matriculated student tuition rate

Dual Enrollment students and Visiting High School students will submit the same online application. One of the first questions will ask if the college courses you plan to take will be used to fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Please note that while admissions requirements are the same, cost and the Visiting Student Registration form are different

When you apply online, you will submit the following admission documents electronically through your online application:

  • Current High School Transcript – Must show a 2.0 GPA or higher.

  • Electronic Approval Forms – Students will enter the names and email addresses of their recommenders on the online application. Electronic approval forms must be submitted by the following individuals:
    • The student’s parent/guardian
    • The student’s current or most recent English teacher
    • The student’s current or most recent math teacher (if registering for a STEM course)
    • The student’s guidance counselor or homeschool advisor (if MCC courses will be used to fulfill high school requirements)

  • English Placement – All Dual Enrollment/High School Visiting students must place into college-level English (ENG 101: Composition I). English placement can be determined in one of two ways:
    • Option 1: PSAT score of 480 or an SAT score of 500 or higher in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
    • Option 2: Complete MCC’s English Guided Self-Placement packet and submit the results online HERE.

  • Math Placement – If taking a class with a math prerequisite, students must provide math placement. Math placement can be determined in one of two ways:
    • Option 1: A student has earned a C or higher in Algebra II.
    • Option 2: A student has not earned a C or higher in Algebra II but has completed MCC’s "ALEKS" math placement assessment to determine eligibility for college-level math. Please email the Dual Enrollment Office if you need access to the ALEKS exam.

All non-electronic forms should be submitted to dualenrollment@middlesex.edu.

  • Once your application is complete and you have been accepted into our Dual Enrollment program, you can register for classes!

  • Dual Enrollment students register for classes by submitting the Registration Form - Must be signed by student, parent/guardian, and counselor.

  • High School Visiting students register for classes by submitting the Visiting Student Registration form - Must be signed by student and a parent/guardian.

  • The registration form is submitted to dualenrollment@Middlesex.edu or their academic advisor.

Complete and submit the following document:

    • Withdrawal Form - Must be signed by yourself, parent/guardian, and
counselor. (Counselor signature required only for Dual Enrollment students, not High School Visiting students).

    • Please note, Dual Enrolled and High School Visiting students cannot withdraw from a class through their MyMCC portal. They must submit the above form to dualenrollment@Middlesex.edu or their academic advisor.
