Whether an individual wants to jumpstart or advance in their career, Middlesex Community College prepares students to succeed in the workforce. Run by the Office of Career Integrated Learning (OCIL), the college will host a Career Workshop Series this Spring to teach students valuable workforce knowledge and skills.
“This series is just one way that MCC prepares students for careers,” said Jennifer Freeman, MCC’s Dean of OCIL. “Partnering with faculty, staff, and employers, we embed career-focused skill building and workplace experience into the curriculum for most programs, ensuring students gain early and relevant experience in their fields of interest. The Career Workshop Series will increase students’ professional preparedness to successfully secure employment and build their future careers."
The first event Glow Up Your Resume will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28 in the Lowell Cowan Center, room 203. In this session, students will get assistance in creating a clean, professional and career-ready resume. OCIL staff will help students develop or polish a resume to feature what employers want, highlight strengths, and create a design to stand out.
From noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, OCIL will host Career Exploration with Focus2 in the Bedford Campus Academic Resource Building, room 108. MCC’s workshop will introduce students to the Focus2 career assessments to identify interests, strengths, and potential majors and career paths. There will be time to complete assessments and ask questions.
Professionalism in the Workplace will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 in the Lowell Cowan Center, room 201. Students will learn key expectations of workplace professionalism. This includes communication, etiquette, handling conflict, and building a strong professional reputation.
In the Bedford Academic Resource Building, room 108, LinkedIn and the Job Search will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 9. Students will create or strengthen their LinkedIn profile, understand their digital footprint, and use the platform as a job and internship search tool.
MCC will also host virtual workshops to help students improve their interview and resume skills. In the Next Stop Success Workshop: Interviewing, students will learn how to prepare for interviews, communicate with confidence, and follow up with employers. Sessions will take place from noon to 12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, February 17, February 24, March 10, March 24, April 14 and April 28.
In the Next Stop Success Workshop: Resumes, students will better understand the structure of a strong resume. Students will learn to present their skills and experiences in the most effective ways possible. Sessions will take place from noon to 12:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, February 11, February 25, March 11, March 25, April 15 and April 29.
Available year-round, OCIL works with all Middlesex students to build a foundation of career tools, develop in-demand skills, gain relevant experience, and apply knowledge to jobs. Through a variety of programs and workshops, OCIL helps students match their interests with career options, connect with local employers, and discover workforce-based learning opportunities, such as the Learn and Earn programs.
