At Middlesex Community College, micro-credentials help students complete their education and enter the workforce faster. In the Fall 2025 semester, MCC will offer micro-credential options in business, communications and visual design, computer science, health and public service. Classes start Tuesday, September 2.
“MCC’s micro-credentials save students time and money, while providing the skills they need to enter the workforce and succeed from day one,” said Heloisa DaCunha, MCC’s Dean of Business, Legal Studies and Public Service. “Designed in consultation with our local workforce and industry partners, classes teach skills that employers are seeking, leading to quicker job placement and advancement for students.”
Micro-credentials teach specific knowledge for students to earn focused, in-demand career qualifications in some of the fastest growing industries. The three to four course bundles provide nine credit hours and run for eight weeks and can be completed in one semester.
Options focus on culinary skills, restaurant supervisor, entrepreneurship, marketing essentials, social media content creation, media studies, media writing, communication skills, web design and coding, computer science artificial intelligence (AI), public health informatics and technology, law enforcement, private security and social justice advocacy.
“Serving to introduce students to growing and in-demand fields, micro-credentials teach valuable knowledge and skills important for them to start their careers,” said Dr. Matt Hurwitz, MCC’s Dean of Liberal Arts. “Classes are offered in-person, online and in a hybrid format to meet the needs of our busy students. The goal is to make getting an education easier and more accessible to assist students in moving to the next level of their careers and reaching their goals.”
Taught by college professors and industry experts, the focus of each course is designed to prepare students for immediate entry into the field. Upon successful completion of a micro-credential, students earn a digital badge to promote their new skillset and advance their careers.
The goal of MCC’s micro-credentials is to help students proceed quickly into the field while meeting the needs of the Commonwealth’s workforce. Students pay less money overall with no fee to apply or register.
“Accelerated, stackable multi-course bundles help students learn and build upon their skills in a specific field,” said Lisa Gibson, MCC’s Associate Registrar. “Micro-credentials are a cost-effective, quick and flexible option for many students. Students can also seamlessly apply these courses into linked certificate and associate degree programs, helping to quickly further their education at Middlesex and at their transfer four-year institution.”
