Accounting/Bookkeeping Fundamentals

Learn essential terms and concepts for starting an accounting system, understand debits and credits, classify items as assets, liabilities, equity, revenue/sales and expenditures. Use practice scenarios and complete basic procedures such as journalizing entries and posting transactions to a general ledger. Explore the bookkeeping and accounting cycle, cash systems, create and understand financial reports. Learn to create a Trial Balance and Post- Closing Trial Balance, understand an Income Statement and Balance Sheet as well as adjusting entries and bank statement reconciliation. In this ONLINE course in partnership with Ed2go, you will Learn to reconcile your checking account and manage credit card and loan payments; create and print invoices, receipts, and statements; track your payables, inventory, and receivables; create estimates; generate reports; and much more. When your course starts, you will be directed to access and utilize the free QuickBooks Online practice site to complete lessons and assignments. You do not need to purchase a subscription or additional software. Please note that this course is suitable only for the QuickBooks Online version. Cannabis Retail Certificate

The cannabis industry is growing field with retail positions being in high demand for both the medical and adult use markets. This course was created with job acquisition in mind. MCC’s Cannabis Retail Certificate (noncredit) addresses the real world demands and core knowledge that retail positions require. Students will develop fundamental skills with an understand of what is required to work in a customer facing position in the Massachusetts cannabis industry. Training will include the state certified Core Curriculum training & exam which is a Cannabis Control Commission requirement for those working in the industry. Taught be a state certified Responsible Vendor Trainer. The final course exam is the state required Core Curriculum exam that is required by the Cannabis Control Commission. Core Curriculum certificates are valid for one year. Not eligible for waivers.

Cooking with Cannabis

This class is a beginner’s guide to making cannabis infused foods or beverages using different carrier oils such as vegetable base glycerin, coconut oil, butter and more!  We will focus on milligram dosage, creating infused products that are not alluring to children along with the importance of labeling and storage.  Pre-req:  Must be 21+ to attend. Digital Photography Certificate
Digital Imaging is the medium that most photographers work with today. Take your photography hobby to the next level with the Digital Photography certificate. This program is designed to meet the needs of anyone interested in photography, portraiture, digital image-editing. To earn a certificate in Digital Photography, candidates must complete the following four courses: Digital Photography I, Digital Photography II, Adobe Photoshop for Photography, and Business of Photography. An Adobe subscription for Photoshop and Lightroom is required for the Adobe Photoshop course; instructor will provide instructions on what option to choose on the first day of class if there is any uncertainty.

Students need a SLR Digital Camera or a Mirrorless Camera for the program. It is recommended students always bring an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

Digital Photography 1

In this course you will learn how to shoot with your camera in manual mode with a focus on how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect how your images look, and how to use Lightroom, a photo editing software. Students will shoot assignments outside of class. Depending on the class size, class will be structured around instruction on a new topic, students having time to cull & edit their images (using the software Lightroom), and having a full class share/critique or an individual image review by the instructor. The most useful part of classroom instruction will be review of photos students have shot. Students need a DSLR Camera or a Mirrorless camera. Elevate your photography with the powerful combination of Photoshop and Lightroom Creative Cloud. In this course, students will learn how to use Lightroom for efficient photo management, color correction, and batch editing, and Photoshop for advanced retouching, compositing, and precision editing. FAA Remote Pilot Certification Exam Prep 

This program will cover the required knowledge content areas of the FAA’s Remote Pilot Testing including: Regulations, The National Airspace System, Weather, Aircraft Loading and Performance, and Flight Operations.  Upon completion, students should feel qualified to take the FAA Remote Pilot Test. 
Practice Questions will also be a key factor of this course. 
A third day is also included that will focus on the safe UAS operations in the field while operating advanced training drones in various exercises.  Course participants will also learn about key safety features of certain models of UAS’s as well as how to develop and follow sound checklist procedures and maintenance protocols. 

Please note: Instructor will use common drones (Mavic or Phantom) on day 3 of the class.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own device.

PRESENTER: David Price – Chief UAS Pilot Greenman-Pedersen, Inc.

David’s background is extensive in aviation higher education.  After working as a corporate pilot in the 1990’s, David’s focus change to aviation safety education.  David was a Professor of Aviation at Daniel Webster College where he developed and delivered curriculum for the College’s internationally accredited flight training program.  David was promoted to the position of Dean of Aviation Sciences at Daniel Webster College where he was responsible for all flight training and safety as well as all related academics for the college’s three aviation degree programs (flight, management, and ATC).

In 2010 David acquired the role of the Dean of Aviation at Bridgewater State University.  During his tenure there, David grew the flight training program from 37 to 142 students (283% increase). Developed the Flight Program’s first Safety Management System (SMS), achieved international academic accreditation, and was able to turn the flight training into a profitable program.

David is an FAA certified Advanced Ground Instructor and Flight Instructor.  In 2006 David was honored as Teacher of the Year by both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Federal Aviation Administration. David is a graduate of Daniel Webster College with a BS in Aviation Management as well as an MBA.  In 2014 David received the Frank G. Brewer Award from the Civil Air Patrol for Aviation Education Excellence.
In 2016 David became the Chief UAS Pilot for Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. where he oversees all UAS operations which include survey-mapping, structures inspections, thermal imagery and training.

This training is intended for any professional who wishes to practice mediation in their current workplace or is seeking to enhance their skills to support a career change. Agile Project Management

We all have heard of Project Management, but what is Agile Project Management? This course is designed to provide beginners across all industries with a comprehensive understanding of Agile Project Management using the Scrum framework. Accounting/Bookkeeping Fundamentals

Learn essential terms and concepts for starting an accounting system, understand debits and credits, classify items as assets, liabilities, equity, revenue/sales and expenditures. Technical Writers produce instruction manuals and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information for end users, customers and manufacturers.

MCC's Technical Writing Certificate program provides students with the skills and tools to clearly and accurately inform users about technical information. In this (two semester) post graduate, non-credit certificate program, students will learn how to conduct audience and task analysis, work with subject matter experts, understand product documents and the product-development cycle, write clear explanations and procedures, review and revise technical information, manage projects and make content usable. 

Pre-Req:  B.S./B.A. Excellent writing and grammar skills, 3 years' work experience, solid MS Windows and MS Word skills, and access to a MS Windows Operating System. Program is not MAC compatible.  Tools and technical skills will be learned in class but it is helpful to have prior HTML or coding background. Students must have an aptitude for learning new technology in a fast-paced environment. 
 
The certificate program includes 2 semesters/courses: Writing and Managing Information (fall) and Technology and Tools for the Technical Writer (winter/spring). 

This is a non-credit (graded pass or fail) program.

The fall session is closed.  3 seats open beginning with spring 2025 (Tools and Technologies). 

How to apply to the program:
The Technical Writing Information Certificate is a non-credit certificate program. Course is graded pass/fail. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, three years' work experience, solid writing skills, and demonstrated aptitude for understanding and learning technical information. Review of applications will continue until the program is filled. To apply, please submit:

  • Cover letter, resume, and one page writing sample. This should be a descriptive piece (it does not need to be technical) which clearly demonstrates your writing skills. The writing sample may be from school, work, articles written, etc. Creative writing samples not accepted.
  • Official transcript of the highest degree program completed. Contact the institution's registrar office and have them send your transcript directly to Community Education and Training (address below).

About the instructor: Charles (Chuck) Murray, with more than 20 years of experience as a technical writer and teacher, provides students with a solid grounding in technical writing fundamentals. Chuck's career has been spent recently at Oracle where he creates printed manuals and help systems and previously at Digital where he was a writer and documentation supervisor. Chuck has also taught technical writing at Northeastern University and high school English.

Course Description: In this online survey course, you will learn the introductory skills needed to author technical content using modern tools. Well-developed writing skills, solid MS Windows computer skills, and an aptitude for learning new technology is required.  It is helpful for participants to have basic knowledge of HTML or XML or coding as a pre-req but is not required.  Students must have access to a MS Windows laptop or desktop outside of class.  MAC is not compatible.  This class is not comprehensive. There are dozens of tools available, and more are being invented every day. We will touch on standards and some types of tools.  Topics Covered:  Overall survey of technical writing tools, exposure to what makes content usable, single sourcing, topic based authoring, and content management through GITHUB.  Tools and standards introduced:  GIT, HTML, Markdown, DITA, MadCap Flare, MS Word, Oxygen XML Author, Adobe FrameMaker.  Instructor: Zoe Lawson.
