Strong Demand & Good Pay

Paralegal is a high growth, high demand field, and the MCC program is an excellent entry point to the legal profession.

Paralegals assist lawyers in nearly every aspect of law practice. Paralegals work for law forms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies. They collaborate with lawyers on:

  • Legal and factual research
  • Court and agency filings
  • Contracts, mortgages, and legal agreements
  • Trial documents, evidence, and witness preparation
  • Real estate closings and title examinations

A paralegal is not licensed to practice law and may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.  A paralegal is bound to the same ethical principles as a lawyer.

For students choosing to go on to law school, Paralegal education gives them the practical skills that law schools often overlook, but employers require.

The American Bar Association requires that students complete 18 credits in legal specialty coursework (courses designated with the PAR prefix) of which 9 credits of instruction in legal specialty courses must be through synchronous instruction. Also, students who want to transfer in legal specialty classes from other institutions should refer to the Paralegal Program Transfer Credit Policy for additional information.
